HISTORY OF THE OFFICE
Date the office was established March  1992
Initiator of the Ombudsman office
The Jugendwohlfahrtgesetz 1989 "opened the door" and the Legislature of the State of Upper Austria passed the OÖ.  Jugendwohlfahrtsgesetz 1991 with the legal foundation for the office.

Terms of reference or Mission Statement
Tasks and powers of the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children and Youth (in particular):
To advise children, youth, parents, legal guardians and statutory agents in all matters concerning the minor and the duties of the parents and legal guardians.
To assist in disagreements and arguments about care and education.
To apply to Courts, administrative bodys and other institutions on behalf of children and youth.
To survey and initiate draft laws and orders, as far as the interests of children and youth are concerned.
To provide information about the rights and duties and the interests of children and youth, and the tasks of the Ombudsoffice for Children and Youth in Upper Austria, and to issue recommendations.

The services of the Ombudsoffice for Children and Youth in Upper Austria are free of charge, easily accessible and all requests are dealt with confidentially and anonymously if desired.

The basic principle and foundation of our work is the Convention on the Rights of the Child: the welfare of children, ban of discrimination, participation.
